CLUB HISTORY

1946 - The Club is founded by a small group of motorcycling enthusiasts and called the Skyhawk Motorcycle Club.

1951 - The Club name is changed to Welland County Skyhawks and a new crest is introduced.

1957 - The Club begins organizing hillclimbs and scrambles on the Leslie farm, in nearby Fonthill. Prior to 1957, Club members actively participated in races, road rides and field events put on by other clubs and organizations throughout Ontario.

1958 - Club purchases ½ acre of land and constructs a 600 sq. ft. Clubhouse. Because there was no heat or hydro, the first meeting in the new clubhouse did not take place until May of 1959.

1964 - The first "Massasauga Enduro" took place. The "Massasauga" grew to be one of the largest one day enduro events in Canada and was the Canadian National Championship Enduro for a number of years. The "Massasauga Enduro" continued until 1984. Club name is changed to Welland County Motorcycle Club.

1965 - Additional land is purchased and work begins on the first addition to the Clubhouse.

1967 - Club is incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation.

1970 - ¼ mile oval race track, with a "TT" track, is built on Club grounds. 1970's also found the Club constructing another addition to the Clubhouse to accommodate the growing membership and the "after the races" crowd. At this time, many Club members are highly active in "Trials" competitions.

1978 - The first "Poki-Barbi-Dan" (Poker Run, Barbecue and Dance) is organized. This event is the Club's first run of the season and is held on the last Saturday in April.

1996 - Club celebrates its 50th anniversary. Clubhouse enlarged again, with a 1600 sq. ft. addition.
